Lawrence Thompson was born on a farm in the Red River Valley. He came to North Dakota when his now-Pastor father accepted a call to a five-point parish at Coulee. He attended Dakota Lutheran High School in Minot. By 1950, his parents were missionaries with the World Mission Prayer League in Bolivia (later in Ecuador), and he was privileged to have a one year visit with them in 1952-3. Following one year at Minneapolis LBI, he attended Concordia College and Luther Seminary. He married Ethel Haakenson of Maxbass, N.D. following College. They have two daughters, Rachel Joy and Lois Rene. Pastor Larry has served parishes in Medicine Lake and Rudyard, Mont.; Camano Island and Connell, Wash., and Hazel Run, Minn. In 1988, he received an MA in History with a concentration in Archival Management, and worked ten years as College Archivist and Special Collections Curator for Wheaton College in Illinois. Reading, music (listening and singing) and genealogy are three of his hobbies. Pastor Larry says, "I have learned to love the breadth of the Christian Church, and am keenly interested in world missions."
